EKORAIL suite
Rail inspection with walking stick & trolley

Industrial Context Description

Rail networks must be continuously monitored to ensure the safety of rolling stock and passengers. This requires frequent inspections of rail integrity, which are often carried out in diverse and sometimes remote locations. Solutions must be adaptable to field constraints, ergonomic for inspectors, and compatible with varying levels of operator qualification.

Industrial Pain-Point

Access to rail lines can be restricted, and traditional rail inspection systems are often heavy, slow to deploy, or require highly skilled personnel. Manual solutions can lack repeatability, while trolley-based solutions may not be robust enough to handle variable field conditions. Software usability is also critical: overly complex systems can lead to inefficiencies and data inconsistency across operators.

Ekoscan Solution

EKORAIL combines two complementary inspection platforms: the EKORAIL3 walking stick and the EKORAIL4 trolley. The walking stick weighs under 5 kg and features three custom ultrasonic testing (UT) probes for rapid deployment and ergonomic use. The trolley integrates 20 UT probes and a braking system for stability on extended inspections. Both systems are embedded with SPIKE electronics and operate under a unified software platform that supports assisted calibration, data acquisition, and analysis—ensuring reliability and ease of use regardless of operator background.

SOCORAIL is a software suite dedicated to railway inspection, capable of controlling all SOCOMATE electronic products. Initially designed for heavy-duty inspection tools embedded in a specific rail car, SOCORAIL combines conventional UT and patented FAAST PA electronics to reach high speed inspection. It offers Acquisition and Analysis software on the same platform with great flexibility to fit with both multiple screens available in a car or a single touch screen using a portable PC on a trolley. Multiple view augmented of real-time processing provides efficient monitoring during inspection, while a combined view details the test results along the rail, for ergonomic and quick analysis. Custom Campaign reports are produced, and all data can be saved for post treatment to ensure quality and traceability of the inspection.
